Privacy Policy

Hoardware for Mac, iPhone and iPad. Last updated September 27, 2026.

Your main library stays on your devices and, when enabled, in your private iCloud database. I cannot read that private database. Optional collection sharing and software release alerts send limited information to services I operate, as explained below.

Hoardware has no advertising, sells no personal data, and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites for advertising. No separate Hoardware account is required.

Your library and iCloud

Device records, serial numbers, notes and custom fields are stored locally and can sync through Apple's CloudKit private database using your Apple Account. Apple provides the iCloud service under its own privacy policy. The developer cannot browse your private CloudKit library.

Deleting the app or turning off sync does not automatically delete data already stored in iCloud. Manage iCloud storage separately through your Apple Account settings. Copies in exports, backups and shared links also have their own lifetimes.

Device information from AppleDB

Hoardware requests device and firmware catalogs and product images from AppleDB and its hosting providers, including a GitHub fallback for catalog data. Those providers receive ordinary connection information such as your IP address and the requested resource. A requested model or firmware catalog can indicate which hardware you are looking up. The app does not send them your complete library, serial numbers or notes as part of these lookups.

Optional collection sharing

Creating a shared link uploads a selected copy of your collection to hoardware.aaronperris.com, a service I operate using Cloudflare Workers and D1. The copy can include the title, device models, categories, colors, software versions and builds, and the names, collections, groups or custom fields enabled in your sharing options.

The sharing feature does not automatically include the built-in serial number or notes fields. However, titles, names and enabled custom fields contain whatever you enter. Review them before sharing: personal information you put in these fields will be shared too. User photos and scanned images are not uploaded by this feature; product images come from AppleDB.

A random owner identifier lets your devices list, refresh and revoke your links. It syncs through your private iCloud database, and the sharing service stores a hash of it with your shared records. It is not derived from your name or Apple Account, but it still links your shared records together.

Links are unlisted, not private: anyone with the URL can view and forward them. The service asks search engines not to index shared pages, but cannot guarantee what other services do with a copy. Links expire 30 days after creation or refresh. Expired records are removed by scheduled cleanup; revoking a link removes its stored record. Cached previews, screenshots and copies kept by recipients or messaging services may remain after expiration or revocation.

Software release alerts

If release alerts are enabled, Hoardware registers with push.aaronperris.com so it can notify you through Apple's Push Notification service when relevant software is released. The service receives a push token, a random installation identifier (stored as a hash), the app version and platform, alert preferences, and the device model identifiers, record identifiers, software versions, builds and update tracks needed to match releases.

The alert subscription does not include your built-in serial numbers, notes, purchase details or custom fields. It is associated with your installation's push token rather than a named Hoardware account. Subscription data and pending delivery records are retained to provide alerts until the subscription is removed. Disabling all release alerts in the app requests removal; the service also removes subscriptions when Apple reports an invalid push token. Notification delivery history used to prevent duplicates is pruned after 120 days.

Disabling notifications in system settings stops their presentation but does not by itself guarantee deletion of an existing server subscription. Uninstalling the app also does not immediately send a deletion request to the service.

Scans, imports, exports and backups

Camera, barcode and screenshot recognition use on-device Apple frameworks. Hoardware does not upload the source images to its sharing or alert services. Information you save from a scan becomes part of your library and follows the sync and optional sharing rules above.

Exports and backups are written or shared to destinations you choose. If you save them to a cloud drive or send them to another app or person, that destination's privacy practices apply.

Service providers and diagnostics

Apple provides iCloud and push delivery; Cloudflare provides hosting and network infrastructure for the sharing and alert services. Service requests can expose IP addresses, request paths and other connection metadata to the providers handling them. Operational records, app version and platform information, and delivery errors are used to run, secure and troubleshoot these features. These records may be associated with an installation or request identifier.

Hoardware does not include advertising or behavioral analytics SDKs. Data used for app functionality is not sold to advertisers or data brokers or combined with other companies' data for targeted advertising. Operational logs and infrastructure copies follow the relevant service's retention and backup settings; revoking a link does not erase every provider log or backup immediately.
