Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about my MCU Viewing Order and how it works.

How long have you been maintaining this?

I started this project on November 6, 2015 and have been keeping it up to date ever since. The spark came when Marvel TV was ramping up production on a lot of shows and I knew it was only going to get harder to track what to watch and in what order.

How did you decide on this viewing order?

This list predates any official viewing order from Disney or Marvel, so it was originally put together by a group of very dedicated fans from the Marvel Studios Discord. Once Disney+ released their own order and the Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline book became available, we used both to refine and adjust certain entries.

For the 1990s animated shows, I used this spreadsheet by u/Im-A-Faun-You-Dork as a reference.

What's the difference between Release, Sacred Timeline, and Timeline?

Release follows the order Marvel originally put the projects out in theaters, on TV, or on streaming.

Sacred Timeline is the default chronological view on this site. It takes the Time Variance Authority (TVA) purges into account for the order, so alternate-timeline and multiverse stories can't exist until after Loki.

Timeline ignores that TVA framing and places multiverse stories at the point where they would actually happen in-universe.

Should I watch in release or chronological order?

If this is your first time watching the MCU, I recommend release order so you can experience the story the way Marvel originally presented it.

If you're doing a rewatch, chronological order can be a fun shake-up that adds a new perspective to the overall experience.

You can also switch between Sacred Timeline, which keeps branched-reality stories after Loki, and Timeline, which places multiverse stories where they happen in-universe.

Can I suggest an edit?

You're always welcome to suggest a change to the order, though I'll be upfront - the odds of me making that kind of adjustment are slim, as the ordering has been carefully considered over many years.

That said, if you spot missing or incorrect data, I'm absolutely happy to fix it. That includes things like wrong release dates, incorrect universe designations, or content that's missing entirely. Those kinds of corrections are always appreciated.

How does this site work?

You can filter content by Studio, Canon status, and Universe designation, and sort everything by Release, Sacred Timeline, or Timeline order.

As you work through the list, you can mark each title as watched and a live progress tracker at the top of the page will update in real time. All of this is saved locally in your browser — if you're using incognito mode or you clear your cache, your progress will be lost.

How do I back up or restore my progress?

You can export your watch progress as a short code using the Export Progress option in the menu. Save that code somewhere - a note on your phone, a text file, anywhere handy.

If you ever lose your progress (switching browsers, clearing your cache, getting a new device), open the menu, tap Import Progress, paste the code, and your watch history will be fully restored.

The code is based entirely on what you've marked as watched, so it's not tied to any account and works on any device.

Can I donate?

Donations are absolutely not necessary - I do this out of genuine love for the MCU and its community. But if you appreciate what you see here and want to show some support, you're more than welcome to. It means a lot.
